This week we had a very interesting discussion around modality and methods of instruction. This topic is very interesting and current as we wade through online classes this year.
I was really worried about our classes being online for “teacher’s college”. I was concerned because so much of what being a teacher is, is being present with your students. I am frustrated that we are paying the same tuition as previous students who got to experience normal instruction. Our cohort is continually told, “Normally, we would do this super fun thing… but we can’t.”
However, I’ve really learned to enjoy online instruction. My home stays very tidy. I am able to wash the bedsheets, put on the dishwasher, or prep supper all during “school”.
The government has just announced that all classes will be in person for Universities in BC this fall. Our program has an intensive 2 week course in September. Some people in our cohort are not in Victoria. It doesn’t seem fair to them to have to come to Victoria just for those 2 weeks. Especially, if they requested their practicums be in their home towns. I hope now that we have this zoom technology, that those students are offered to join virtually.
